Chiefs promote youngster to first team

The 21-year-old left back has been playing for the club's reserve team but has now signed a four-and-a-half-year professional contract.

Kaizer Chiefs have announced the promotion of development player Happy Mashiane to the first team.

Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp said he had been monitoring the youngster for some time and believed he was now ready to play for the first team.

“Happy has been around. At 21 years of age, he is matured, and I think this is the right time to have him join the first team,” Middendorp told the club’s website.

“Happy has an extremely educated left foot. He will give us options on the left. He knows the Kaizer Chiefs culture and has already been with the club for four years.

“I admire him for his attitude. He is not the kind of player who gets over excited on the ball, he does his business and applies the basics. I think it won’t take long before he gets a nod to play.”

Mashiane will be competing with the likes of Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Godfrey Walusimbi for the left back position at Chiefs.
