Zimbabwean defender eyes Sundowns move

News coming out of Zimbabwe is that highly-rated central defender Byron Madzokere is angling for a move to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 28-year-old Yadah Stars centre-back had a trial stint at Sundowns and is said to have impressed coach Pitso Mosimane.

Stars owner Prophet Walter Magaya said his club would not stand in Madzokere’s way should Sundowns make an offer for him.

“We have Byron Madzokere, whom we think will not last long with us as he recently held trials with South Africa club Mamelodi Sundowns,” Magaya told Zimbabwe’s Herald.

“We all know that our local football does not pay that much, so we decided to allow players to leave for clubs that offer better opportunities and can put them under the spotlight.”

Madzokere is also comfortable playing as the defensive midfielder.
