Agent confirms interest in Rantie

Tokelo Rantie’s agent has revealed that there is interest in South Africa and Scandinavia in the Bafana Bafana striker.

In January, reports in Turkey suggested that Rantie was facing a heavy sanction from Fifa after walking out on Turkish club Gençlerbirliği SK.

It was reported that Rantie went AWOL after asking the club to let him come to South Africa to attend to his sick grandmother.

However, Rantie’s agent Denis Celebic disputes these reports and say the Bafana striker and Gençlerbirliği parted ways amicably.

“Tokelo didn’t force an exit from Gençlerbirliği,” Celebic told Goal.

“He terminated his contract with the club because he wanted a new environment and he needed to play. That’s why they went separate ways.

“The major course for termination was purely that he wanted a new environment and at the moment, he is in South Africa, training hard and weighing his options,” Celebic added.

Celebic is confident that Rantie will find a new club soon.

“He has enormous potential and I am certain that the next club he signs for, he will show his full potential.”

As reported by Phakaaathi earlier, Rantie has attracted interest from Cape Town City. Celebic, however, could not confirm that City are keen on the former Orlando Pirates striker, only confirming that there is interest from both Scandinavia and Africa.

“He is a free agent and he hasn’t decided where he will go next.

“There is interest from both Scandinavia and South Africa, but it his choice to decide where he wants to go, and when he is ready, he will choose the club,” commented Celebic.

Rantie had a successful spell with Swedish side Malmo FF, whom he left for a record fee to join English side Bournemouth AFC at the start of the 2013/14 season.

He managed just five goals in three seasons at Bournemouth, before joining Gençlerbirliği.
