Agent confirms Mathoho’s Kaizer Chiefs exit

Mathoho has only featured once for Chiefs this season.

Lack of game time has been cited as the reason Mulomowandau Mathoho will leave Kaizer Chiefs and seek a fresh start elsewhere next season.

Mathoho, who is 33-years-old, has only featured once for Chiefs this season. He came on as a late substitute against SuperSport United in September last year and his agent has confirmed he will not stay beyond this season.

Basia Michaels says they have had extensive talks with the Chiefs management over Mathoho’s situation at the club but they could not find any common ground.

This is why she will now be looking at other options for the well-experienced tall defender nicknamed Tower.

“We have been in discussion with Chiefs and based on the lack of game time and Tower’s age. He would like to end his career playing football.

“And that’s probably the biggest deciding factor,” Michaels said as quoted by SABC Sport on Friday.

“We have had extensive and professional conversations with the senior management… And from those conversations, we can clearly see a future away from Naturena with Tower playing football for the next three years or so.”

Michaels also revealed that while they would have liked for Mathoho to finish his career at the Naturena side, they have had some suitors asking about him.

“I wouldn’t tie it down to it being solely their (Chiefs) decision. We have had suitors for Tower, probably since the first days of him not playing regularly.

Could Mathoho play his farewell game on Saturday?

“They made enquiries and so we do know that we have a few options which I am not at liberty to discuss with you yet.

“I do respect the processes of football and that would definitely be them announcing such a heavy hitter and adding him to their roster.

“We want Tower to play and enjoy his football as his career tapers off – playing football is one of the most important things for all footballers.”

Mathoho may make his final appearance for Chiefs in their final DStv Premiership game against Cape Town City on Saturday.

The game is a home fixture for Chiefs and will be played at FNB Stadium and would be a suitable farewell for the veteran defender.

The winner between the two sides will take the fourth spot in the Premiership standings.
