Pirates focussing only on winning against AmaZulu

“We don’t know how many goals we need, but we need to win the game first," says Pirates coach.

The race to finish in second place on the DStv Premiership is going down the wire this weekend, with both Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United looking to finish second behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Only the goal difference separates the two teams going into the last games of the season. They are both on 51 points after 29 games.

Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says it is important for his team to get maximum points when they take on AmaZulu FC at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

“We don’t know how many goals we need, but we need to win the game first. It’s going to be a difficult game against AmaZulu away from home, they are an excellent team. We need to think about how we are going to win the game,” said the Bucs coach.

“It is the last game of the season. So, probably there will be a lot of venues where everybody will be watching their phones to see how others (teams) are doing and what they need to do. But first of all, you need to win. We need the three points and players as good as possible and then we will see how many goals we need, maybe one.”

Pirates have done tremendously well in the last couple of weeks to find themselves fighting for the runners-up spot. For that, Riveiro is proud of his team and he says he is happy to be going into their last fixture of the season with a chance of qualifying for the Caf Champions League.

“We have a small minimal advantage, but if you think about the scenario three months ago and the advantage our opposition (SuperSport)had, then we should be proud of the team in the last parts of the season. We are glad to be going into the last fixture with the opportunity in our hands to finish second on the log and we are going to fight for that.”
