Amajita gear up for Egypt challenge

SA Under-20 team coach Thabo Senong is anticipating a very different Egypt side when they meet in the semi-finals of the Cosafa Youth Championships in Nkana Stadium today.

Amajita and Egypt met in the group stages of the tournament, with Senong’s charges winning the tie 2-1 after coming back from behind.

The victory saw the South Africans record a 100 percent record in the group stages finishing on nine points, having also beaten Mauritius 2-0 and Mozambique 1-0 to claim their spot in the last four of the competition.

Egypt, meanwhile, have made it to this stage of the competition after finishing as the best runner-up in all the groups after finishing on six points.

“We are looking forward to the match and we know that it will be a different ball game. The mental demands will be different. But as we said from the start that we came here to develop, learn and give our players an opportunity to play against the best nations in the continent,” said Senong.

“We will plan as a technical team and make sure that we do everything to win this match to make sure we win the match and go to the final. We have the talent and we believe in our boys because they understand how we want them to play. We are proud of the boys and believe that they can do the job.”
