Bafana could face goalkeeping crisis

Darren Keet is out of the Bafana Bafana squad as Stuart Baxter faces a potential goalkeeping crisis ahead of the September 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde.

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt confirmed on Tuesday that Keet would miss the games against Cape Verde, in Praia on September 1 and Durban on September 5, with a knee injury.

With regular Bafana number one Itumeleng Khune also suffering from a chest infection that ruled him out of Kaizer Chiefs’ 1-1 draw with Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday, that leaves SuperSport ‘keeper Ronwen Williams as the only definitely fit goalkeeper in Baxter’s squad.

“Darren is out, he has a kneed problem, I spoke to Stuart and told him,” said Hunt on Tuesday.

“He needs to make a change. He (Keet) might have had a chance to play, as the other goalkeeper, the number one is also injured. That is Stuart’s problem, but obviously we want to get him (Keet) back competing again.”
