Ertugral confirms Maritzburg exit

By Thembinkosi Sekgaphane

Speaking to Phakaaathi on Monday, the Turkish mentor said he left the Team of Choice because results were not forthcoming in the last few games.

The former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs coach added that he had a conversation with club chairman Farook Kadodia after struggling to help the club to win a single game.

“We parted mutually, it is unfortunate,” Ertugral told Phakaaathi. “We decided to part, they brought me in to help get the results, when I joined they had won one game, and I decided they need someone to help them get results in the 14 or so games left. We played four games in the league and couldn’t get any results.”

Ertugral leaves the KZN side fresh from their embarrassing Nedbank Cup exit at the hands of National First Division side Witbank Spurs through penalties on Sunday.

Asked if losing to Spurs had anything to do with his decision to leave United Ertugral said: “No I think we actually played well, we could have had a result, but we lost on penalties, it was not bad. The decision was because of the last four games we played and couldn’t get the results.”

Meanwhile, Maritzburg on Monday also confirmed on Twitter that they had parted ways with Ertugral.
