The former Kaizer Chiefs duo spearheaded Ea Lla Koto’s front line in an Absa Premiership encounter against Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday night at Globe Park, although a spectacular brace from Percy Tau sunk the Bethlehem-based side.
Manqele made his name during his first stint at Stars back in 2012 where he was among the league’s leading marksmen, netting 14 goals to his credit.
The 30-year-old was happy with his return to action, but admits he still has a lot of work do if he is to rediscover his once scintillating form.
“It was good to be on the pitch because I was out for a long time. Getting game time is a bonus for me so I have to work harder. I am getting there slowly but then it is all about hard work and training … and with support from my teammates and technical staff … I am getting there,” he told SuperSport TV after the 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mthembu, popularly known as ‘Shaka Zulu’, says they are getting to understand the philosophy of new coach Luc Eymael.
“We are starting to play and enjoy football,” he said.
“He (Eymael) is a good coach, but I won’t lie, there is nothing new that he came with, we just have to get used to his system and start performing. We have to dig deeper and have belief in ourselves. The league is still long but we have to get points early and move forward,” added the 30-year-old.
