Is Bucs’ new coach a hit or miss?

I know football is a global language, but I’m concerned whether Orlando Pirates' new coach Josef Zinnbauer is the right man to lead the team back to the happy days.

First of all, let’s just look at his CV, there is really nothing to write home about despite the fact that he coached Hamburg for not more than six months. Adding to that, most of the teams he coached are lower League teams.

Another thing is that the guy has never won a major trophy in top-flight football, which is really a huge concern for a big club like the Buccaneers.

One other thing is that he has never coached in Africa before.

So, for someone who has never coached in the continent and doesn’t have a huge pedigree in the game, what is he going to bring to Pirates?

Yes, there is Rulani Mokwena and Fadlu Davids assisting him, but he is the head coach and he will certainly be looking to apply his methods and philosophy.

Pirates are on a five-year trophy drought and I don’t want to start talking about the pressure that lies on his shoulders. At a team like Pirates, one is immediately under severe pressure the minute they sign on the dotted line.

The fans expect results from the start and they will be on top of him from the first game.

However, as I said, football is a global language and this might just be the right man to steer the Bucs ship in the right direction.

Anyway, I think hiring Zinnbauer was a huge gamble for Pirates. But this is football and impossible is nothing. He might just be the right for the job.
