Komphela not throwing in the towel in league race

Steve Komphela believes Kaizer Chiefs are still in contention to win the league title.

This is despite Amakhosi losing 3-1 to arch enemy Orlando Pirates over the weekend, a defeat that sees Chiefs drop down to fifth position.

“Are we lagging behind a bit, yes. It was a massive opportunity for us to get closer to Sundowns. Orlando Pirates are there, it is a hell of a confidence boost for them. It could have been for us. That is the beauty of football,” Komphela told the media after the Soweto Derby on Saturday.

“We regret the fact that we lost the match. Our fourth loss in the season and the manner in which we lost it, completely uncharacteristic of us. We do not concede many goals and today (Saturday) we conceded three, obviously against a good team.

“You still have to remain positive. In any scenario where mathematically you are in. You still have to keep pushing,” he continued.

“We have a huge responsibility to keep delivering. We are performers, we are artists so we cannot stop the show. We have to keep performing. We do not know what is going to happen in the other matches,” concluded the Chiefs coach.
