Lakay-Mashikinya in swap deal

Bloemfontein Celtic have confirmed a swap deal with Cape Town City which sees Lyle Lakay joining the Citizens and Given Mashikinya becoming a Siwelele player.

Celtic and City were due to attend a PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber hearing where Lakay’s future was to be decided.

The Citizens took Siwelele to the DRC after Celtic refused to issue Lakay’s clearance certificate, stating that the player was still contracted to them until June 2018.

Celtic have since released a statement confirming the swap deal with City.

“Instead of sitting through Dispute Resolution Chamber which was postponed for today (18th July 2017) for the case involving Lyle Lakay who still had a one-year option on his contract; both Bloemfontein Celtic and Cape Town City mutually agreed on a swap deal. Given Mashikinya, an industrious midfield player will be joining Celtic with Lakay going the opposite way,” read the statement.

Celtic CEO Khumbulani Konco added: “We are glad that the matter between ourselves and City concerning Lakay has been solved harmoniously. Lakay was still contracted to the team and even though he wanted to leave it was prudent for him to follow appropriate procedures. City approached us in a professional way trying to solve the matter and after deliberations and also consultation with our technical team, we agreed to sign Given and allow Lyle to join them.”
