Mbekile’s Sundowns future hanging in the balance

Mamelodi Sundowns defender-cum-midfielder Asavela Mbekile has revealed that he is not sure of his future.

Mbekile, who has been at Chloorkop since 2014, will see his contract with Masandawana run out at the end of June, and is yet to be updated on where his next destination is likely to be.

“The best person to ask that question would be Tim Sukazi [his agent], I am sure that he would have answers,” said Mbekile.

“I don’t know what is going on and Tim is not in the country at the moment and when he comes back he will let me know of the latest developments.”

Mbekile also revealed that Sundowns have not opened any discussions as his contract draws to an end next month.

“They haven’t said anything at the moment,” said Mbekile before he expressed his disappointment of his little involvement in Downs’ league winning campaign.

“It hasn’t been one of the best seasons, it has been tough but I have people who support me at home and they have made it easier,” said the 31-year-old former Moroka Swallows man.

“I have no idea… I think the other players who were playing before me were doing well so maybe that is why the coach did not change the team. He does not change the winning formulae so maybe that is wasn’t part of the team this season.”
