Mere calls on Dikwena to take advantage of second chance

Platinum Stars captain Vuyo Mere has challenged his teammates to take advantage of the lifeline thrown at them.

Mere and his teammates made the playoffs in the 11th hour, but stumbled when they lost 1-0 to Black Leopards in their first match of the Promotional Play-Offs midweek. Mere says the loss should serve as a wake-up call.

“When we got an opportunity to save our status, it came as a blessing so I think we need to work hard for it. We have been given a chance so we can’t give up now. We know what is at stake, and we have to make use of this opportunity. The loss to Leopards should be a wake-up call,” said Mere.

“Under the circumstances we should have done better. There are no excuses. I don’t think we were confident enough to stamp our authority to show that we are a PSL side. They showed more confidence than us. Hopefully in the coming games we can do better. We know that we have made our lives difficult. We spoke as players that if we are going to be in the PSL, we can’t afford to be dominated by NFD teams.”

Mere says Dikwena will go all out to ensure that they garner maximum points in their remaining matches.

“We need to bring back our confidence when we play at home. We need to take advantage. The next two games are at home and if we win them our confidence will be back. We have to work on our strength and eliminate our mistakes. Hopefully we can do well and score goals. Everyone must contribute. Defenders and midfielders also have to go all out,” said Mere.

Dikwena’s next assignment is against Jomo Cosmos at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Wednesday.
