Pirates duo facing uncertain future

Phakaaathi has learnt that Mahlatse Makudubela and Nkosinathi Mthiyane are facing possible exits from Orlando Pirates.

The two were on loan at Chippa United last season, but they failed to get regular game time at the Chilli Boys.

Makudubela made just one appearance for Chippa, while Mthiyane failed to register a single appearance for the Chilli Boys. Now word is that Pirates are considering letting them go.

“You must remember that the reason why Mthiyane and Makudubela were sent out on loan was for them to get game time, but they didn’t play at all at Chippa,” said a source close to Pirates.

“Chippa have indicated that they are not keen to retain them because they didn’t contribute much at the club. So Pirates will try to send them out on loan again, but if there’s no club interested in them, they’ll release them.

“It’s going to be very hard to get takers for them seeing that they didn’t play much for Chippa last season, so the possibility of them being released is real,” added the source.

Makudubela joined Pirates from Platinum Stars in 2016, but failed to get regular game time at the club, only managing six appearances for Pirates in the 2016/17 season.

Mthiyane was signed by Pirates from Chippa in July 2016. He was sent on loan at Golden Arrows in January 2017.

He again struggled to break into the Pirates starting lineup, and was sent on loan at Chippa in January 2018.
