Chiefs on the hunt for another goalkeeper

Kaizer Chiefs are on a serious hunt for a goalkeeper to give some competition to Virgil Vries since Itumeleng Khune is out with a long-term injury.

A source has claimed former club keeper Thela Ngobeni is among those the club are considering.

Ngobeni has not seen any action this season at Mamelodi Sundowns and has previously publicly stated he would like a move away.

“Ernst (Middendorp) has worked with Ngobeni before at Free State Stars and if Sundowns agree to release him he could be at Chiefs before this month ends,” said a source.

Ngobeni is a product of the club’s development structures but never got a real chance with the senior team as he had to compete with Khune at the time.

Meanwhile, as reported by Phakaaathi earlier, Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt has hinted that goalkeeper Darren Keet could be headed to Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the season.

Keet’s current deal with the Students ends in June and the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper is not keen to sign a new one.
