Pirates renew interest in Ajax defender

Orlando Pirates are said to have renewed their interest in Ajax Cape Town defender Rivaldo Coetzee.

This comes after the Bafana Bafana defender’s highly publicised move to Scottish giants Glasgow Celtic fell through at the weekend.

Pirates had previously made an offer for the Bafana Bafana defender but were declined when Celtic came knocking.

“Now that he is no longer going overseas, Pirates want him. The negotiations have started and they should proceed quite fast because the transfer window closes on Thursday,” said a source.

Coetzee went AWOL at Ajax in July as he was said to be unhappy and he wanted out of the club but he went back and apologised.

Pirates might have competition though as Mamelodi Sundowns have also been previously linked with the 20-year-old central defender.
