Mobbie, Mbhele boost for Stars ahead of Chippa tie

Free State Stars are boosted by the return to fitness of promising full-back Nyiko Mobbie for their home league clash with Chippa United on Wednesday.

Stars will be out to break Chippa’s seven-match unbeaten league run when they clash at Goble Park on Wednesday evening (6pm).

Sifiso Mbhele is also back from injury for the home team, but midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula as well as new signing Oliver Kwizera, the Rwanda international goalkeeper, remain sidelined.

Chippa lost their most recent match, 0-1 to Kaizer Chiefs, but that was in the Telkom Knockout competition.

In the league, Teboho Moloi’s Chilli Boys are flying high after three consecutive wins, which followed on the back of five straight draws. They occupy sixth position in the standings with 14 points.

Stars have a slight edge in the head-to-head record against Chippa, with four wins, one draw and three defeats in the eight previous meetings.

Ea Lla Koto (10th on the standings, 11 points) go into the match on the back of two defeats; one in the Cup – Bidvest Wits, and one in the league – Cape Town City, and it has been three matches since they last recorded a victory.

Neither team has any suspensions for the game.
