Mosimane backs SuperSport in Confederation Cup final

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has lent his support to SuperSport United in their bid to win the 2017 Caf Confederation Cup.

Mosimane has also urged other clubs to do better on the continent, as he believes South Africa should be dominating the continental game.

Matsatsantsa face TP Mazembe in the second leg of the Confederation Cup final in Tshwane on Saturday, trailing 2-1 after the first leg in Lubumbashi. Mosimane believes Sipho Mbule’s away goal in the DR Congo could prove vital.

“It was a brilliant goal they scored away, a real thorn in the flesh for TP Mazembe,” said Mosimane.

“I remember when we played Zesco (in the 2016 Champions League semifinal) we were praying for an away goal. I think SuperSport will score here, they are doing wll and we wish them luck.

“As I have said before we (South African teams) are not achieving (enough) in Africa. Why can’t we go to the Confederation Cup final and the Champions League final? Our teams must get there. I hope SuperSport can win it and have a few more players in Bafana.

“(Orlando) Pirates will come, we need Pirates back and we need Chiefs to do a bit well too in the Confederation Cup or Champions League, whatever opportunities are there.

“If we can’t do it with the national team, let’s do it with the clubs, no excuses. Maybe other (international) teams have players playing for Chelsea or Napoli, like Kalidou Koulibaly, we (Bafana) are not there yet, let’s be honest. But it means the clubs in Senegal and Egypt, in the continent, we have to fight their clubs. Their best players are overseas, our best players are here, so let’s win on the continent.”
