Mosimane tells Baxter to consider Lebusa

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says the senior men’s national team has been shaky at the heart of defence.

Mosimane has suggested that Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter should consider calling-up Masandawana defender Mosa Lebusa, insisting that Baxter may need a natural left-footed centre-back.

“Mosa Lebusa has been playing, Stuart knows that Mosa is there. We need to help Bafana with the number of centre-backs,” said Mosimane.

“We have not been really convincing at centre-back for Bafana. We used to know who is playing but at this point in time it could be a little bit different and positions are up for crabs.

“We don’t have a natural left centre-back for Bafana. We have been playing Buhle Mkhwazani and he is right-footed. Mosa Lebusa has been playing in the Caf Champions League and he is also raising his hand to say ‘don’t forget that I am around and I can play international football,” he added.

After Downs beat Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi in the first round of the Champions League, the former Bafana coach showed some faith in the national team, saying Bafana can qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations set to be staged in Egypt in June. Bafana will be face Libya in their final group stage match, where they need to avoid losing.

“We have played the Libyans that Bafana are going to play so I think that story is finished. South Africa can do the job there and I think we will come back (win a win).”
