Orlando Pirates defender Patrick Phungwayo reportedly appeared at the Palm Ridge magistrate court this past week on charges of attempted murder and pointing a firearm at a man in Spruitview.
According to The Sowetan, Phungwayo handed himself over at the Katlehong police station on Monday morning after being sought by the police for an incident that happened at the beginning of the month.
Patrick and his brother Phelelani allegedly assaulted the man before pulling out a gun and shooting him on his ring finger.
Police spokesman Captain Mega Ndobe told the newspaper that the Pirates player arrived with his lawyer.
“A 29-year-old soccer player was arrested on Monday at the Katlehong police station. He was brought in by his lawyer after a case was opened against him for attempted murder and pointing of firearm,” Ndobe said.
The brothers appeared at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and were released on R2000 bail each.
Pirates administrative officer Floyd Mbele said the club was not aware of the incident.
