Stars aiming for league and cup double over Pirates

Free State Stars will give their Nedbank Cup opponents, Orlando Pirates due respect while aiming to complete a double over the ailing Soweto giants.

Ea Lla Koto beat the Buccaneers 3-2 in a league game last weekend and they face off again in a Ke Yona tie on Saturday afternoon.

Stars attacker, Goodman Dlamini said they will not make the mistake of undermining Bucs.

“We must not undermine them. Going into the match overconfident of beating them again could turn out to be dangerous for us,” Dlamini was quoted on Isolezwe as saying.

“They are a big team who can’t afford to lose two games in a row against us. But we can do it if we remain focused and humble.”

Pirates will be under pressure to move on to the next round of Ke Yona as it is the only competition where they have a realistic chance of salvaging some silverware on their 80th year of existence.

Dlamini said they need to listen to their coach, Serame Letsoaka’s instructions which he credited for last weekend’s win.

“We knew what we needed to do. The coach told us to not allow them space and play balls behind their defenders because they are not very mobile in terms of speed,” he said.
