Stars look to continue winning ways

Roger De Sa is hoping Platinum Stars will continue winning when they host Bloemfontein Celtic in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinals at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday.

Dikwena registered their first league victory of this season on Wednesday night when they edged Ajax Cape Town 1-0 at the same venue, with club captain Vuyo Mere scoring the winning goal.

De Sa, however, is not happy with his team’s performance in the game, saying Dikwena should have killed off the match.

“Last night’s performance was the worst performance since I have been here and we go and win. Football is crazy. It’s the way it goes. They hit the crossbar and Dino Visser made a world class save towards the end. We also missed. We should have killed the game. It’s three vital points and a very tough game. We are very relieved,” said De Sa.

“We need to be a lot better than we did last night. It’s a cup game, so the focus will change a little bit. It’s going to be some tired legs, and we probably have to rotate some players. We can’t keep going with the same guys. We are going to be tested for depth.

“We have to be more focused on the league. We are still at the bottom. We have to get a couple of good results. We have to be a lot better to beat Celtic. I think Celtic is a confident team. They are buzzing as well. We have to raise our game,” added De Sa.

Stars and Celtic are set to meet at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday at 3.30pm.
