Swallows flying high again

Following a disastrous campaign last season, Swallows FC have started the current Gauteng ABC Motsepe League campaign on a good note.

Swallows got relegated to the SAB League after finishing at the bottom of the league last season, but they’re back in the ABC Motsepe League after acquiring the status of Orange Vaal Professionals.

The team, now named Swallows FC, started the new season with an encouraging 2-0 victory over Alexandra Black Aces.

Swallows coach Isaac Mpasane has promised that more will still come this season as he tries to work hard to clean the mistakes of last season that saw the once-proud Soweto club slip further into the abyss.

“The pitch did not help us, but the boys are gelling, and we are happy with the three points. That is what we want. To be honest, we are going to fight this season. We do not want to talk much about last season, but we are going to give it our best this season,” Mpasane told the Safa website.

“We doubled our efforts, and did not concede. That is important. Conceding in this league is a heavy price because coming back is not easy. Things will get better when we register more of our players who are still busy with their exams.”

Swallows’ next league match is against Dondol Stars at the TUT Pretoria West Campus on September 27.

Dondol are fourth on the log thanks to their victory over M. Tigers United.
