Tinkler happy with crucial away goal

SuperSport United coach Eric Tinkler is pleased with his side’s effort despite their 2-1 loss to Congolese giants TP Mazembe in the first-leg of the Caf Confederation Cup final.

The sides are duo to meet again on Saturday night at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in the decider. A 1-0 win will see United lift the trophy for the first time in the club’s history, while a 2-1 result in favour of Matsatsantsa will see the match being decided on penalties.

“We are happy with the 2-1 loss because we will only need a goal at home,” Tinkler told SuperSport TV.

“The objective was achieved, we managed to get the away goal. I wasn’t too concerned about the performance because we needed that away goal,” he added.

SuperSport’s vital away goal was credit to a sublime strike by youngster Sipho Mbule. However, Tinkler felt his side could’ve scored more goals.

“I think in the first-half we created at least three or four chances but we couldn’t score one of them. We obviously got caught with a cracking shot and we unfortunately found ourselves 1-0 down and in the second half we came up a lot better, we got the equaliser, but then they punished us on the set-piece.”
