Australian GP winner Valterri Bottas has explained why he stumped many with an expletive-laden radio message following his win at the weekend.
Just after he’d been congratulated by a Mercedes engineer, the 29-year-old let rip with: “To whom it may concern, f**k you”.
These type of messages are usually very bland during broadcasts.
Bottas later clarified that he merely felt a spontaneous need to send “critics” a message after various observers pointed out that he made little impact during a winless campaign in 2018.
“It just came, I just wanted to send my best regards,” Bottas was quoted as saying by AutoSport.
“That’s it. Honestly, I didn’t think about it or plan it, it just came.
“Obviously there are many people who support you, and honestly I appreciate that a lot. There are many people around me, supporting me.”
