The Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora gives the crime briefs.

A hijacking took place last Thursday in Athlone Avenue, Strubenvale.

A man was on his way to drop off his daughter-in-law at her house at 8pm.

According to Springs police spokesman W/O Amanda Greybe, the man stopped in front of his daughter-in-law’s house to drop her off, when he noticed an unknown vehicle parking behind them.

Two men jumped out of the vehicle and shouted at them to get out of their vehicle.

“One of the men was armed with a firearm and he approached the man on the driver’s side and the other hijacker went to the passenger side of the vehicle,” she says.

The two victims got out of their vehicle and left the key in thee ignition.

The two hijackers got into the white Mercedes Benz and drove off with a cellphone and handbag still in the car.

No shots were fired.

n A house was robbed on Saturday at 2.15pm in Fairways Road, Selection Park.

A man left his house while a man was working in his garden.

According to W/O Greybe he received a phonecall from his neighbours at 3.32pm, informing him that his house has been broken in to.

The gardener claims three men gained entry to the premises by climbing over the wall and into the house by forcing the security and wooden door open.

“The gardener says the robbers must have noticed him when they entered the house as the fetched him outside, tied his hands behind his back and locked him up in one of the bedrooms,” she says.

They ransacked the house, taking most of the electrical appliances as well as jewellery.

No one was injured.

n An attempted murder was reported on Sunday at 4.20pm.

A husband and wife went to drop off a parcel in Meyer Drive, Wright Park when the found the front gate of the premises open.

W/O Greybe says they drove in and the woman got out of the vehicle to knock on the door when she heard someone shouting at her husband to get out of the vehicle.

The woman noticed two men talking to her husband and the next moment she saw them running away.

“One of the men was armed and he turned around at the gate and fired a shot at her husband, run towards a white car and drove off,” says W/O Greybe.

The residents came out and the woman walked to their car and saw her husband’s shirt was fll of blood.

The man was rushed to a hospital nearby for immediate surgery.
