Good Samaritan helps hijack victim

The owner of a white Chevrolet Spark was tied up by hijackers before they stuck him in the boot of his car on Wednesday.

The incident took place on the corner of Markon and Murdoch streets, New Era at 11.50am.

SAPS spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the victim (36), who is from Benoni, was allegedly reading meters when he was approached by an armed man.

“The suspect instructed him to get into his Spark, got in as well, and ordered the owner to drive,” he says.

According to Ramphora the suspect drove around until he reached a gravel road where a red Opel was parked.

The suspect allegedly forced the victim to drive around another 30 minutes, followed by the Opel, before ordering him to stop the vehicle.

“Leaving the owner tied up in a remote place near Carnival City, the suspects drove off in his Spark,” says Ramphora.

The owner managed to find help from a good Samaritan, who untied him and called 10111.

Ramphora says the owner lost his vehicle, two cellphones, a GPS and his work tools.

“The owner claims there were five suspects involved in the hijacking,” says Ramphora.
