A Bakerton man was allegedly assaulted and robbed by his gardener on Sunday morning, says Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora.
According to the complainant, just before midday on Sunday he called the security guard who works for a local security company and guarded the boom gate at the corner of 18th and 4th Streets in Bakerton to assist him with some gardening work and painting.
The guard helped him and later ask to use the bathroom.
While he was in the bathroom, the owner prepared bread and coffee.
The next moment the owner was struck with a brick on the back of his head.
He turned around and saw the guard carrying a large knife and he ordered the man lie down.

The guard then handcuffed the owner, with cable ties, behind his back before dragging him to his bedroom, shoving a cloth in his mouth and blindfolding him.
After half an hour he heard the sound of his furniture being moved to the back door.
The owner managed to open a toolbox with his feet and get hold of a sidecutter and freed himself by cutting the cable ties.
The owner went to his neighbour for assistance.
The security guard’s employer was contacted at approximately 4pm and informed that his employee has assaulted someone.
When the employer questioned the guard about the complainant’s allegations, he denied assaulting the man and said the complainant had asked him for help with painting and removing the furniture.
The guard says once he was done assisting the complainant, he went back to work.
The owner says his front door keys, car keys and cellphone to the value of R1 800 are missing.
