Armed robbers target business park

Business park targeted by armed robbers

A gang of robbers had a field day at a New Era business park making off with a variety of valuables, including copper cables and cellphones.

The robbery took place at the Springs Business Park last Wednesday evening.

According to Amanda Greybe, the Springs police spokesperson, eight men dressed in dark blue security uniforms arrived at the premises in a white six ton Kia truck and a blue sedan.

The robbers held two security guards at gunpoint and forced them to hand over their cellphones and a device they thought was a panic button.

The guards were tied up and taken to unit 16 where the robbers found four people working.

From here the robbers took four hand drills and two LED lights, as well as three cellphones from the victims, valued at R1 700.

Four of the robbers then stayed to guard the six victims, while the others went to unit 20.

There they found three more people and took their cellphones and backpacks.

A computer tower, a speaker, an extension cord, a cellphone charger, a grinder and two jackets were also stolen from this unit.

The four robbers then demanded the victims accompany them to unit 35, where two more people were found and robbed of their cellphones.

The robbers then loaded copper cables from the unit into the Kia truck.

It is unclear how many cables were taken, but the back of the truck was reportedly full.

Before fleeing the scene, the robbers proceeded back to unit 16 with all the victims and bound them with ropes and electric cables, and forced them to lie down.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

The victims freed themselves and contacted the owner of a security company, who alerted police at about 1am.

No arrests have been made.
