According to Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu, spokesperson for Tsakani SAPS, shacks were erected in the area and people were unlawfully occupying the land.

When police arrived to enforce the law, the dwellers were instructed to demolish the shacks, but the crowd started protesting and fighting with officers.

The people claim they were promised the land.

“We would like to send a message to the community that unlawfully occupying land is a punishable crime
and people are warned not to be deceived by others claiming to have land to sell,” said Mngomezulu.
