Springs Rugby dominates Benoni in action-packed home wins

Springs Rugby Club delivered a clean sweep on home ground this past Saturday, with all teams securing wins against Benoni.

Springs Rugby Club delivered an impressive set of victories on home ground this past Saturday, with their U21, second, and first teams all securing wins against Benoni in front of enthusiastic supporters.

The U21 team triumphed 27–15, while the second team overwhelmed Benoni 50–6. The first team capped off the day with a commanding 76–26 victory in a match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

From the outset, Springs set the tone. Their first team took early control and maintained a strong lead into halftime. Head coach Bruce Borman said the strategy was to stay focused and avoid unnecessary risks.

“Going into the second half, we knew we had the points on the board. The plan was simply to stick to our game plan and not try anything that could disrupt our momentum,” Borman explained.

While Benoni mounted a few successful attacks, Springs’ defence remained solid, and they continued to dominate the field.

“It was a convincing win and one that will boost the team’s morale heading into the next challenge,” said Borman. He added that his highlight of the day was seeing the team give supporters the performance they came to witness.

“To maintain this momentum, we’ll keep building on our positive attitude and work hard on fixing small mistakes,” he said.
Borman also praised his team’s resilience.

“There were some moments when we let our guard down, but the team regrouped quickly and never gave up. That determination made the difference. Overall, it was a strong performance and proves that when things click, this team can be very dangerous.”

Benoni head coach Juan Olivier, while disappointed by some aspects of his team’s performance, acknowledged their effort and commitment.

“People forget this is our first year in the top league. It’s a long and challenging competition, and the boys fought hard,” Olivier said.

However, he was critical of players who lacked consistency throughout the game.

“You can’t give it your all for 20 minutes and then ease off. Rugby is an 80-minute game. We need to improve our individual skills and mentality,” he stated.

Despite the loss, Olivier noted that the team achieved one of its goals for the match.

“Our target was to score four tries against Springs, and we accomplished that. It all starts with training and preparation,” he concluded.

Match results:
*U21: Springs 27–15 Benoni
*Second team: Springs 50–6 Benoni
*First team: Springs 76–26 Benoni
