Entertainment company hosts soup kitchen for residents affected by Slovo Park explosion
Following the explosion that destroyed homes in Slovo Park on July 4, a local entertainment company brightened up the affected residents' day by hosting a soup kitchen for Mandela Day.
Sochilla Entertainment (SE) spent 67 minutes on Mandela Day with the residents of Slovo Park, following the aftermath of an unfortunate incident.
The residents have been picking up the pieces after an explosion damaged some of their homes on July 4. SE organised a soup kitchen for community members and donated 10 blankets.
Lazarus Makgalemane of SE said, “The incident left some community members at a huge loss. In this cold, they needed warm, nutritious food and blankets.”
He added that the shop owner of the Blue Shop donated the blankets to over 50 community members. They enjoyed music while being served soup and bread.

This soup kitchen was the company’s first outreach programme.
“We are excited that it was successful and are overwhelmed by the gratitude of the community. It was a beautiful moment to share. They did not even want us to leave,” he said.
Lazarus said they hope to do more in the future, “We want to build a strong relationship with the community and collaborate with local organisations and volunteers to plan long-term support and growth. Ubuntu is one of our core values, so giving back where we can brings joy to our hearts,” he said.
He concluded by highlighting the essentials the Slovo Park community still needs, “Any donations, such as clothing, food, blankets or building materials to help rebuild the damaged houses. Any donation would be of great help, including extracurricular activities for the youth,” he concluded.
