Springs SPCA to host annual Boo Bash Halloween fun run at Springs Country Club
From scenic trails to spooky outfits, the annual Boo Bash promises a night of fitness, fun and support for the animals.
The Springs SPCA is hosting its annual fun walk/run under this year’s theme, Boo Bash, on October 29 at the Springs Country Club. Registration begins at 17:30, with the 5km walk/run starting at 18:30.
SPCA chairperson Nicky Meiring told the Springs Advertiser that safety measures will be in place since the event takes place in the evening.
She said Afriforum will be supporting the event, with volunteers along the route and first aid personnel to ensure all participants remain safe. Meiring added that the route at the club is suitable for people of all ages, including pets.
“You can walk it, crawl on it, or run it – it is 5km in distance and very scenic,” said Meiring.
The Halloween-themed run has been held for four years, and Meiring said the events have been a great success, including last year’s spooktacular run. Participants and their furry friends are encouraged to dress according to the theme.
Meiring explained, “It is more about the fun and the opportunity to dress up than it is about Halloween specifically.”
The entry fee is R120 per person, which includes a medal, beer, gin, or a cold drink. She said it will be a fun-filled evening with like-minded people, all for a good cause. Spot prizes will be awarded for best dressed participants, along with prizes for the top three finishers.
Food, including pancakes, will be available at the venue, with proceeds contributing to the SPCA’s fundraising efforts. Meiring explained that the majority of the shelter’s income comes from fundraisers.
She added that this month the SPCA had to purchase a new vehicle after one of their cars was involved in an accident and written off.
Meiring encouraged the public to attend, saying they love meeting new friends, seeing regular participants, and spending time with animals adopted from the shelter.
Those interested in participating may contact Meiring at 084 455 2220 or visit the SPCA Facebook page. Tickets will also be available for purchase on the evening of the event.
