Bakerton community spreads Diwali joy through Give A Tray initiative
To mark the Festival of Lights, the Springs Bhairavi Sungum hosted its annual Give A Tray collection, bringing together sweet treats and essentials to share joy with children in need.
To celebrate Deepavali, commonly known as Diwali, on October 20, Springs Bhairavi Sungum organised its annual Give A Tray collection.
Trays filled with sweetmeats, savouries, and non-perishables were gathered at the collection point at the Bakerton Community Centre.
All collected items were delivered to the East Rand Children’s Haven on behalf of the Bakerton community.
Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, is a cherished occasion on the Hindu calendar that represents the triumph of righteousness and the dispelling of spiritual darkness.
It represents the return of Lord Rama to his kingdom, Ayodhya, after 14 years.
“Let us carry forward the spirit of Diwali: sharing light, love, and unity, and continuing to uplift one another,” said the organisation’s chairperson, Poovershree Pillay.
She expressed her gratitude to all members within and beyond the community who supported the initiative.
“The children were excited and grateful for your generous contributions, leaving their hearts filled with warmth and hope,” Pillay said.
