VANDERBIJLPARK. – Anyone who knows 24-year-old Zimbabwean born Tinotenda Chirara will concur that he is a man of action and principles. Therefore it came as no surprise when he was recently elected as NWU Vaal’s Student Council’s new Sports Officer. “Talking is good, planning is better, but doing is the best. I aspire to talk less and act more during my term of office. I am calm but I don’t conform and I am not scared to stand alone especially if it is standing up for the right reasons.”

“My goal is to advocate and advance the interest of the students of NWU holistically, without favoritism on whatever basis. I am very passionate about all sports. I will always preach the same gospel: diversity, inclusivity, equality, and fairness,“ he admits. When Tinotenda is not traveling or leading NWU Vaal’s basketball team on the court he focuses on his studies.

He is currently busy with his Bachelors of Education degree majoring in English, Business studies, and Psychology. Even though Covid-19 has put a damper on everything including sport he remains upbeat and optimistic about the future. “I alone cannot make a difference, however with the support of my team, the newly elected SCC, and the entire NWU populace together we will make a difference.”
