Mclachlan leads the charge at Heron Banks

Shoots a superb 8-under-par, giving himself an early advantage on a course that rewards precision and patience.

VAALPARK – The Sunshine Tour Mediclinic Invitational is officially underway at the picturesque Heron Banks Golf and River Estate, where players are battling it out over four rounds on one of the most scenic stretches along the banks of the Vaal River.

The practice rounds and the Pro Am on Monday gave the players time to adapt to the course.

True to autumn conditions, golfers were greeted this week by cool, misty mornings rolling in over the fairways.

A fitting backdrop for a strong opening round with Keegan Mclachlan setting the pace with a superb 8-under-par, giving himself an early advantage on a course that rewards precision and patience.

Hot on his heels are MJ Viljoen and Samuel Simpson, both carding impressive 7-under-par rounds to share second place.

A tightly packed group follows at 6-under-par which included Keagan Thomas, Austin Bautista, and Simon du Plooy. They are all well-positioned heading into round two. Tyran Snyders sits just behind them at 5-under-par, rounding off a competitive leaderboard.

With three rounds still to go, the stage is set for a thrilling week of golf in Vaalpark as the field navigates the riverfront layout and unpredictable morning conditions.

Spectators can expect world-class shot-making, shifting momentum, and plenty of drama as the Sunshine Tour action continues. Two hole-in-ones on day 1 set the tone for some incredible golf. The first players will tee off tomorrow morning at 07:00.
