VDBP industrial accident: 22-year-old injured

VANDERBIJLPARK - A 22-year-old man was in a serious industrial accident in Vanderbijlpark this morning.

Nick Dollman, Netcare 911 spokesperson said in a statement paramedics were told the man’s hand was injured while he was operating heavy duty machinery.

Dollman said the man’s hand had allegedly gone into the shredding machine but had been freed from it prior to paramedics’ arrival.

He sustained serious injuries to his right hand and was left with limited movement. Dollman said the man was attended to by a Netcare 911 Advanced Life Support Paramedic who administered analgesic medication to control the amount of pain he was experiencing.

Due to the serious nature of the injuries and the specialised trauma facility that was required, the paramedic called the Netcare 911 specialised air ambulance to the scene.
