Residents of Vanderbijl and Bophelong protest over electricity outages

On Monday evening the residents of Bophelong and Vanderbijlpark joined hands and took to the streets with burning tyres as they demanded electricity.

This comes after the both areas have been struggling with regular electricity outages in the past few weeks.

On their last update Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) said their technicians are making positive progress on restoration efforts, their team is currently reconnecting replacement circuit breakers.

“Once they are done, breaker tests will follow and if all goes according to plan, power supply to the affected areas will be restored.”

“No estimated time of reconnection can be communicated at this point due to the scope of work that still needs to be done. The municipality is pleading for patience from affected communities as technicians are doing everything in their capacity to restore electricity.”
