VUT Goldfields Library Team: “We saw how much friendship and team work mattered”
The year 2020, with the spread of this pandemic, has taught the world to adapt to change and demonstrate ability.
Stonehaven-on-Vaal, in collaboration with Vaalweekblad and Ster, is currently hosting a competition for Vaal Triangle businesses to hear what plans they have made to deal with the Covid-19 Lockdown and how they came out stronger. The winning company will receive a gift voucher of R10 000 that can be used for a year-end party OR a 2021 Start-up party at Stonehaven! Here is VUT Goldfields Library Team’s story:
Ms Mosidi Montso, Senior Library Assistant: Acquisitions Electronic Resources at The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) reports on the many ways colleagues supported each other AND the students during the hard Lockdown Levels:
The year 2020 has been far from perfect. But we as the VUT Goldfields Library Team saw good in it.
We saw how much friendship and team work mattered.
The year technologically connected us in the scope of work. We managed to adapt to new things and this made us stronger than ever.
Our technical team managed to pay suppliers from the comfort of their homes. Our Information Specialists managed to help students through the platform of “Ask your Librarian” link.
Our students were still our priority despite the challenges of Covid 19. Despite the circumstances we were faced with, we still managed to hold online meetings to be on par with what is happening around us as well as to discuss as to how we can improve our services to our clients and stakeholders.
We also managed to put protective measures in place to ensure that the environment is sanitized, personal protection equipment available, screening as well as encourage social distancing.
We worked together with management as a team, striving to achieve our goal as well as that of the University being “to produce employable and entrepreneurial graduates who can make an impact in society. For this, I see 2020 as a powerful year for the next generation to learn about.
I see us and how regardless of circumstances we didn’t quit. I have learnt that the most powerful lessons are discovered in the most challenging times. The year 2020, with the spread of this pandemic disease (Covid 19), has taught the world to adapt to change and demonstrate ability.
* All Vaal Triangle companies and institutions are invited to enter the competition before October 20. Follow this link to find out how to enter: https://www.citizen.co.za/vaalweekblad/74850/win-a-year-end-function-worth-r10-000-at-stonehaven/
