Be cautious as you enjoy the Vaal River: ELM Acting Mayor

SEDIBENG.- The Acting Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality, Khethiwe Ntombela, expressed concern about two separate incidents which happened at the Vaal River on Saturday.

The first incident being a collision of two speed boats which left two people injured and the the second incident where it is alleged a boat with 7 people took on a lot of water and ultimately capsized leaving 5 people dead.
Ntombela said that with the heat wave ravaging the country and summer being upon us, it is normal that people will have fun with families on the river.
“We call on our people, both locally and those who visit our majestic Vaal River to enjoy themselves responsibly and always wear life jackets.
“We also convey our message of sympathy and pass our condolences to those whose loved ones lost their lives on Saturday. We are saddened by the loss of these valuable lives. I further plead with our police to monitor the activities around the river for the safety of all who enjoy our river.” said Ntombela.
