Two suspects fatally wounded during shootout with police

Masondo states that two suspects were fatally wounded while four suspects were arrested on the scene.

GAUTENG –Police report that two suspects were fatally shot and four were arrested following a shootout with the police on the M1 Highway, next to Woodmead Drive Off ramp, in Sandton on Wednesday morning.

Police spokesperson Capatin Mavela Masondo says, “Members from crime intelligence received information about a robbery that was going to take place in Johannesburg.

“Police from Gauteng Serious and Violent Crime Unit and Johannesburg Flying Squad operationalised the information and kept observation.”

“At about 11h45 on Wednesday three cars, two Audi A4s and Hyundai i20, with 10 suspects were spotted on the highway. The suspects then fired some shots at a white Toyota Fortuner forcing it to stop. Police intercepted the suspects who fired shots at the police and a shootout ensued.”

Masondo states that two suspects were fatally wounded while four suspects were arrested on the scene.

“One firearm has been recovered and three cars used by the suspects have been seized. Police are searching for about four suspects that are still at large.”
