Gold medal and bragging rights for local fighter

VANDERBIJLPARK. - Four local Mixed Martial Art (MMA) fighters recently represented Sedibeng at the South African MMA Championships held in Edenvale.

The SA Championship was held over 4 days (8 April to 11 April), where the Sedibeng fighters made us proud and brought back a fantastic result of one gold and two silver medals.

Alex van Staden, (junior under 120kg) is the new SA Champion in his division; while Blayden la Grange, (junior under 92kg) and Nadia Terblanche (women under 53kg) were runners-up in their respective divisions. Joubert Pienaar (under 83kg) had a great fight, but unfortunately lost on the first day of the championship.

A total of 149 athletes from across South Africa participated, hoping to fulfil their dreams of becoming a SA champ in their respective divisions.

The pressure was on as a lot hung on the line for the fighters. Apart from a gold medal and bragging rights, new champs would also have the opportunity to compete at the IMMAF World Championship in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan during November and December.
