Driving schools shut down licensing department

VANDERBIJLPARK.- The National Driving School Association of South Africa closed several license offices in Sedibeng last week by barricading the entrance with burning tires.

Regional Secretary of the association, Solomon ‘Solly’ Mokone, blamed the license department for making changes to booking and registration systems without notifying or engaging with various stakeholders.

Mokone said that the new system called E-Nati’s is of no use to driving schools.

“People have to register online, and it takes ages. Not everybody has access to computers. “Sometimes the system rejects or refers clients to other stations. “Our goal is to make sure our clients can access information easily,” he said.
Police make sure that they dont give the driving school owners space to barricade the building with burning tyres.
“We have tried to engage with both provincial and local levels of government to be of assistance.
“We had no intention of barricading the license office in the Rudi Klopper building with burning tires.
“We told the police we would not be violent,” said Mokone.
The national executive committee is responsible for the offices of the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).
“We informed police and the license department offices that as long as our demands are not met, there won’t be any services (offered).
“We also have families to look after. This is our daily bread and once the government takes it off our table, our families will suffer,” said Mokone.
