12 Dogs rescued from house of horrors in Vanderbijlpark

VANDERBIJLPARK. - The local SPCA rescued 12 dogs from a residential property in SE7 yesterday after a post on Facebook that was widely shared by concerned animal lovers.

The dogs were found starved and in poor condition. The dogs were also very skittish and scared of humans. Their living conditions were extremely dirty and they did not have access to food or clean water. Some of them are in desperate need of veterinary treatment.

An urgent court order had to be obtained from the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court to enable the SPCA team to enter the property and seize the dogs and take them into custody.

Once seized, the dogs were immediately taken to a private veterinarian for examination and treatment. 𝑺𝒂𝒅𝒍𝒚 3 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒈𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒉𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒆𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒅𝒖𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒑𝒐𝒐𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏.

“When our team fed the dogs, they gulped up all the food as quickly as they could, wanting more. They were evidently starved and scared they would not be fed again any time soon,” says Marlien de Klerk (manager of the local SPCAs).

“𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒈𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒆𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒄𝒖𝒆. One was extremely ill and had wounds full of maggots, and an old fractured leg that was left untreated.

“Another was also in poor condition with an old fractured leg and the third dog was ripped to shreds by the other dogs and the wounds were so badly infected that the dog already had septicemia. They were on deaths door and it would have been cruel to keep them alive.”

The owner will now be facing the full might of the law, with criminal charges being laid by the SPCA in terms of the Animals Protection Act.

“We are calling on our supporters to please assist these poor abused dogs by making a small donation towards their veterinary expenses and upkeep,” pleads Marlien.
