Spur hosts Republiek Primary’s fundraiser

MIDVAAL. - Cancun Spur in Meyerton recently hosted the Republiek Primary School’s 1st rugby team ‘Shadow Shift’ evening, where over R3 000 was raised on the day.

The event entailed a fundraising dinner at the restaurant. Members as well as supporters, including parents and teachers, were part of the funfilled evening.

The objective of the event was to raise funds for the school’s rugby team as well as give students an opportunity to learn about the restaurant business.
Sihle Makama from Cancun Spur says learners assisting waitrons on the evening will not only help the students to learn more about the restaurant industry, but to also raise funds.
Makama said that 10% of the night’s turnover from when the event started would be donated. Educator and coach Marius Enslin (33) said that the initiative would assist students struggling to get funds for the upcoming rugby trip.
“We also want our kids to interact and form part of the community.”
Enslin thanked Cancun Spur management for supporting the fundraiser. Educator and coach Jonathan Pienaar says the event was also about people learning about what their school is all about and learners getting to interact with members of the community.
Speaking about the experience, 11-year-old Quaid le Roux said that it was exciting to work with waiters while also interacting with everyone who supported the fundraiser.
The funds raised will help the school with running their sport activities and events and assist in buying uniforms.
