A new chapter in paediatric care in Emfuleni

For residents of the Vaal Triangle, the development addresses a critical gap in regional healthcare.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Mediclinic Emfuleni has marked a major milestone in local healthcare with the successful completion of its first specialised paediatric surgeries.

On August 22, newly appointed paediatric surgeon Dr Niveshni Maistry performed her first operations at the facility.

This landmark event marks a significant expansion of specialised medical services in the Vaal region.

Dr Maistry joins an established medical team at the hospital, which already includes three resident paediatricians.

Hospital leadership notes that adding a dedicated surgical specialist enhances their multidisciplinary approach and advances the long-term strategy to establish Mediclinic Emfuleni as a regional centre of paediatric excellence.

Historically, families in the Vaal and surrounding areas had to travel to larger metropolitan hubs to access specialised surgical care for children.

The expansion allows young patients to receive high-level treatment closer to home, minimising travel burdens and logistical strain on local families.
