The police in Meyerton recently partnered with the Meyerton business forum, Gender-based Violence (GBV) brigades from the Department of Community Safety, Alpha trauma centre, Kotulong care centre to bring the sports against crime initiative.

MEYERTON. – The initiative was carried out together with local soccer teams who engaged in a friendly soccer match.

Police spokesperson Constable Tlaleng Moloi says, “ The objective of the initiative is to build trust and a good working relationship between the police, stakeholders and young people of the area to make it easy to fight crime.

The initiative was led by Sector 1 Commander Sergeant Sefuthi. “I’ve realised that it is not easy to fight crime in our communities without young people being on board. Young people don’t attend meetings and youth dialogues.”

Sefuthi said that young people were members of the community and have a big role to play. During their presentation, members of the community educated attendees about services offered by the SAPS as well as services provided by other stakeholders.

Young people were urged to join the Youth Crime Prevention desk and given guidelines on how to be part of the structure.

The Meyerton station commander, Colonel Moeti Lepitla was pleased with the initiative. He stated that youth is the future.
