Cable thieves disturb the dead at Evaton Cemetery

At least four suspected cable thieves are behind bars.

EVATON.-  The suspects aged between  22 to 30 years- old were caught red handed digging the electricity cables from the mast lights in the Evaton graveyard last week. It is said that security guards followed a tip-off that led them to the arrests of the first two suspects.

Fetsi Makatsane, from the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) By-Laws Unit said that they arrived at the graveyard following the call from the security company at the scene. Two suspects were arrested and charged for cable theft and they were  then handed over to the Police in Evaton.

As if this was not enough, as police were busy opening the case, they received another call at the same cemetery that the was another two suspects that were also caught digging the cables.

They too, one of them a Lesotho national, were arrested. The cables, in total, were astimated to be  R 20 000 in value.
