Due to growing socio and economic challenges elderly women and grandmothers become the primary caregivers and extend support to raise their grandchildren.
According to Teixeira elderly women and grandmothers play an invaluable role in society and are the backbone of our communities.
“They instill strong values in different generations as they play a vital role in raising the next generation.
“They often do this with little resources and assistance from the government.
“The day was meant to offer some comfort and downtime away from the many responsibilities that they carry.
“We celebrate and honour them, all the women of Midvaal and South Africa as a whole,” says Teixeira.
